The math

What every dollar does.

Three worked examples. The numbers are exact. Round to the nearest cent.

  • Tutor sets$15.00
    + Service fee$0.75
    Student pays$15.75
    − Platform fee$3.00
    Tutor receives$12.00
  • Tutor sets$30.00
    + Service fee$1.50
    Student pays$31.50
    − Platform fee$6.00
    Tutor receives$24.00
  • Tutor sets$60.00
    + Service fee$3.00
    Student pays$63.00
    − Platform fee$12.00
    Tutor receives$48.00

The 5% service fee covers payment processing, escrow, classroom infrastructure, and the dispute team. The 20% platform fee covers verification, customer support, marketing (which sends students to tutors), and keeping the lights on.

Group classes

One teacher, several students, split fairly.

Tutors set a per-student rate for group classes. Each student pays that rate plus the 5% service fee. The tutor receives the per-student rate × number of students, minus 20%.

Group classes are usually cheaper for students and earn more for tutors. Same math, better outcome for everyone.

Worked example

$25/student × 4 students

Each student pays
$26.25
Total billed
$105.00
− Platform fee (20% of $100)
-$20.00
Tutor receives
$80.00

Same hour, four times the take-home of a 1:1 class at $25/hr.

FAQ

Real questions.

Why is there a service fee?

It funds the platform: payment processing, verification, the classroom, dispute resolution, and the people who keep this running. We charge 5% to students and 20% to tutors. That's it. No subscriptions, no markups, no hidden fees.

When am I charged?

When you book a class. The payment is held in escrow and released to your tutor 24 hours after the class is completed. If something goes wrong, you can request a refund before that window closes.

What if I cancel?

If you cancel more than 24 hours before the class, you get a full refund. Less than 24 hours, you forfeit the cost — your tutor blocked that time and may not be able to fill it. We err on the side of the tutor here.

How do refunds work?

If a class doesn't happen because the tutor cancels or doesn't show, you're refunded automatically. If a class happens but goes badly, you can flag it within 24 hours and we'll review. Most disputes resolve in 48 hours.

Is clss Pro worth it?

Probably, if you book at least four classes a month. Pro includes session recordings, priority booking on featured tutors, and a reduced service fee (3% instead of 5%). At four classes a month, it pays for itself.

What countries do you support?

Tutors can be paid in 47 countries. Students can pay from anywhere with a major credit card or supported local payment method. Live class quality depends on your internet, not your location.
